Playing Games in the Classroom

‘Playing Games in the Classroom’ was an event held on 18th June by Scotland’s Colleges in Stirling. The aim of the event was to give educators knowledge and skills in developing computer games with a variety of different tools.

Delegates were able to choose 4 different one-hour workshops to learn from other educators about software tools for creating games, including Gamemaker, Sauerbraten, Blender, Scratch, Flash and Kodu.

The event was well attended by around 40 delegates from schools and colleges from across Scotland. The event was also oversubscribed, so there may be a possibility of another event in the future.

I presented a Blender workshop where delegates learned the basics of making a platformer game, and I also demonstrated creating games with Adobe Flash using the Adobe’s Digital Design Curriculum.

The vent ended with a series of educational quizzes and games which had been developed by David Renton and his students at Reid Kerr College.
